Triangle Startup Weekend: Women

September 19, 2014 2:48 PM

The organizers behind ‘Triangle Startup Weekend: Women’ have announced a free pitch bootcamp to prepare participants before the main event in October. The bootcamp, scheduled for September 23, will be at American Underground’s Main Street location in Durham. Triangle Startup Weekend: Women will be at HQ Raleigh, October 10 - October 12, and will also be sponsored by Marbles Kids Museum.

By hosting September’s pitch bootcamp, the Triangle Startup Weekend team hopes to further break down barriers and help participants overcome fear of pitching a startup idea. Attendees will learn basic pitch strategies, practice ideation, and receive an overview of the business model canvas.

The bootcamp will be facilitated by Whitney Rowe, Principal at The Startup Factory and local startup advisor and entrepreneur.

Startup Weekends are volunteer-organized events that aim to grow the entrepreneurial community by bringing together seasoned entrepreneurs, students, developers, and those new to the startup world in one place. ‘SW: Women,’ a new vertical to our region, seeks to make entrepreneurship more accessible to women and to raise female attendance at the event from the average 20 percent to at least fifty percent. Marbles Kids Museum’s partnership will directly impact this goal by making it easier for parents to attend the 54-hour startup event.

Through this partnership, attendees of Triangle Startup Weekend can redeem free family passes to Marbles Kids Museum, as well as discounted vouchers to the weekend’s MAXrewind: Retro Movies @ Marbles IMAX movie. Passes to the museum include access to all-day kid’s activities, including a pumpkin carving on October 11 and a MakeShop on October 12.
