HQ is expanding in 2016

Less than a year after moving into the Warehouse District, HQ Raleigh co-founders Brooks Bell, Jesse Lipson, Christopher Gergen, and Jason Widen have announced plans to continue expansion in 2016.

Our founding team recently purchased the William Cozart furniture production facility at 319 West Street, located directly behind our existing space. This building, currently measuring 10,000 square feet, will be redeveloped into 30,000 to 50,000 square feet of entrepreneurial work, design, and meeting space, including offices for larger startup teams. The space is estimated to be open in Spring 2016.

Co-Founder Brooks Bell says the space will be planned with member needs in mind. “From our experience, most commercial real estate rarely ‘gets' the unique space and community needs of a fast growth entrepreneur. Long term leases, expensive upfit and closed off spaces can hamper growth and cause stress. We hope to address some of those issues with this building, and design a space that continues to support our entrepreneurial community throughout all of our members’ early growth stages."

The decision is motivated by the rapid growth of our entrepreneurial community. We have a consistent office suite waiting list of over 15 companies, membership of more than 105 startups, and partnerships with Seventh Generation Ventures, the Citrix-Red Hat Accelerator, NC State’s Office of Technology Transfer and the Poole College of Management since moving into our 310 S. Harrington Street last March.

Says Executive Director Jason Widen, "This new space provides an opportunity to expand our current concept, while at the same time, provide a graduation space for larger companies looking to stay engaged in the entrepreneurial community.  At the end of the day, it is about creating a dynamic community for high growth, high impact entrepreneurs to grow and prosper."

Co-Founder Jesse Lipson adds, “I have always judged HQ’s success by the success of the companies in our community. Two years after we first launched HQ, many of our member companies are experiencing tremendous growth and this HQ expansion will help us to continue to support these companies and keep them engaged in the HQ community in the Warehouse District.”

To accommodate additional companies until the West Street space is complete, we're is working with Empire Properties to lease expansion space at 311 S. Harrington.
